Book, Music, and Lyrics by Spicer Carr

Bubba was never good at making friends; so he imagined them instead. Using his toys, he creates friends like the queer Radio, the precocious General, the neurotic King Teddy, and the maternal Queen Teddy. And for the longest time, these were all the friends he needed. But there was always something drawing him outside of his shell, he just didn’t know how to connect. Then one day Dophie, a girl from his special ed class with a speech impediment, asked to lay with him. Excited, Bubba invites her in but when she finds all of his imaginary friends too strange and weird, Bubba becomes ashamed and tries to hide them all. In a desperate attempt of self preservation, one of the newest imaginary friends (made especially for Dophie) named Blorg, decides to eradicate all other imaginary friends to make Dophie feel more comfortable. To confront this threat and save his imaginary friends, Bubba and Dophie team up to stop Blorg. But in the process, Bubba learns that in order to connect with others, you must first accept yourself. Written by Composer-Lyricist Spicer Carr, The Rocking Boy is a semi-autobiographical musical about growing up with autism, self acceptance, loss, and learning to understand “All of Me”.
