Rocking Boy get new reading at TYE Center!
Composer-Lyricist Spicer Carr is excited to be returning to Utah Valley Universities TYE Center for a new reading of his semi-autobiographical musical The Rocking Boy. The reading will take place on January 29th, at 7:30pm at UVU’s Noorda center for the performing arts.
The Rocking Boy tells the story of Bubba, a little boy with autism who struggles with communicating and has created an entire world of imaginary friends to keep him company. But is this enough? Bubba longs to make friends, but does not know how nor does he feel worthy. Enter Dophie, a new girl down the street with a speech impediment. Could this be the friend he has always wanted? Bubba invites Dophie into his world and even creates her own imaginary friend. But when Dophie is scared by this world, and disfigures the imaginary friend, Bubba’s mind enters into open rebellion. Now Bubba and Dophie must free themselves from Bubba’s mind and in the process learn the true meaning of friendship and self-acceptance.
This upcoming reading is being co-produced by M.A.R. Productions, the TYE Center, Kynsie Kiggins, and Megan-Ann Rasmussen.
